Melodic Ornamentation / Ornamentación Melódica

This course offers an in-depth study of the melodic ornamentation that is written down and explained in medieval theoretical treatises and musical sources (900-1300). The student will learn to ornament different types of medieval melodies (both vocal and instrumental) through the study of examples and conventions associated to different repertoires (liturgical chant, troubadour/trouvère song, instrumental music).

Este curso ofrece un estudio profundo de la ornamentación escrita y descrita en tratados teóricos medievales y fuentes musicales (900-1300). El estudiante aprenderá a ornamentar diferentes tipos de melodías medievales (tanto vocales como instrumentales) a través del estudio de ejemplos y de convenciones asociadas a diferentes repertorios (canto lítúrgico, canción trobadoresca/de troveros, música instrumental).

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge of basic music theory and modern music notation. Conocimiento de fundamentos musicales y lectura de notación musical moderna, capacidad de lectura en inglés.
